I picked it up for $4,000 from someone in town. Almost the entire truck is stock, it was made at the local plant almost 3 decades ago, hardly any rust...the only non-stock parts were the radio, speakers and the syncrhonized 3spd transmission (1969).

LS1 SwapPictures of the LS1/T56 swap into my 1968 Chevy C10 stepside (SWB)
Took a few attempts, I will add pictures as I go. Once everything was apart, it wasn't just a drop-in ordeal with my garage setup, so I ended up taking apart other things as I went.
While I had the front clip off, Found myself unhappy with 40-year old steering components, so, for $250, I got all the parts necessary to rebuild the steering and upgrade from manual to power steering.
Picked up a new inline engine for $200. paid more for the rebuilt carb and clutch assembly than for the entire engine. Ran like a champ, this gallery is a documentation of taking the original engine out and putting the new one in.
Ordered some new headers for my inline from MotherTruckers in Bradenton, FL. $160 new, coated with eastwood header paint (improperly, so it bubbled :) and tossed them in the truck. They hung far too low on my 250 for my taste. I think they'd be a great fit on the 292. Linkage for the clutch and other stuff made the install cumbersome.
